Morocco, Part 3: Ouarzazate to Fes

The next few days of our trip were both uneventful and even boring. It happens. Ouarzazate gave us a chance to relax – there just isn’t much to do there – but, when we left, we found we’d scheduled ourselves for one night near the Gorges of Dades, a sort of must-see on the tourist route. Indeed they were beautiful, impressive rock formations, but not that impressive for those of us who have spent time near similar outcroppings in Utah and other parts of the Southwest.

The Gorges of Dades.

We stayed that night in a new, swank, supposedly secret hotel – not yet on the market! – where maybe everyone except us had some kind of in; we just happened on the place. It was lovely, if pretentious, and the dinner – the alternatives were roadside stands, and I wished afterwards we’d chosen one of those – was faux French in a cringy way.
