A summertime childhood favorite, reconsidered (and improved!)

I’m a fan of frozen fish sticks—a favorite since childhood, when I’d layer them onto slices of Wonder Bread with a squiggle of ketchup. I eschew the Wonder Bread these days, but still love those fish sticks.

In general, homemade versions of things you can easily buy at a grocery store perplex me. Why bother? But when the craving struck me on a recent breezy June lunchtime, I searched the freezer to find—no fish sticks. Not even way in the back.
