We have Julia Turshen on Food with Mark Bittman today!
I first met Julia when she helped out on a show I did called Spain…On the Road Again (with Gwyneth Paltrow, Mario Batali, and Claudia Bassols) — what a wild time that was. Julia was amazing, and it was great to get to know her. And now, almost 20 years later (!), she’s published a number of cookbooks (both on her own and as a collaborator), including her latest, What Goes with What: 100 Recipes, 20 Charts, Endless Possibilities. What Goes with What is a great book and sort of a recognition that once you start thinking about food in a bigger way and really know what you’re doing in the kitchen, ideas come easily. It’s a book of 20 charts, each with a formula for how to make something simple — salads, vegetables, soups, pastas, one-bowl, baked goods — with lots of examples (and 100 recipes.) (It’s also designed by her dad, which I love.)
Here we are — enjoy! And get Julia’s recipe for Caesar Spaghetti here.
