What we can — and should — learn from peasants

Our guest on Food with Mark Bittman today is Patrick Joyce, who is a leading British social historian and the author of Remembering Peasants: A Personal History of a Vanished World, which just came out last week.

Mark got an early copy of the book and when he saw the title he of course thought, “If this guy isn’t writing about peasants and food, I’m disappointed. But I’ll bet he is.” And, indeed, Patrick Joyce has done just that, and he’s knowledgeable and articulate about it, a subject that has probably not been given its proper due.
