I procrastinated doing today’s intro for a long time, because I’m so excited and I just didn’t know how to introduce someone who I was shocked wanted to talk with me and who is even nicer and smarter and more introspective than I’d imagined.
This week’s episode is with the comedian Phoebe Robinson, who was a co-host, with Jessica Williams, of the much loved podcast and then TV show, 2 Dope Queens; the two interviewed other famous people like LeVar Burton, Jon Hamm, and Tig Notaro, but more importantly – they charmed the everloving crap out of anyone with a brain. The show was #1 on the Apple podcast charts, which is an impossible feat.
Phoebe’s new show, Clash of the Cookbooks, is a cooking competition: each episode features three chefs and they have to cook from some of the most random cookbooks—like cookbooks written in hieroglyphics, crazy French stuff, soups from the Seinfeld cookbook, iconic desserts of the 1960s from the actor Vincent Price, etc.
I’m normally averse to cooking competition shows, but I can be swayed, and Clash of the Cookbooks, which Phoebe hosts and judges with culinary historian Max Miller, is CHAR-MING. And after you listen to my chat with Phoebe, you’ll understand a big reason why.
