My mom first found furikake in a crunchy health food store in the mid-to late 70s and inflicted it upon her four children. We all fell in love with it. I just saw a jar of it I used to buy at Trader Joe’s in the 80s in LA, back on the shelf. It goes on everything from plain rice to stir-fries, any vegetable or meat, and, as Kate has so perfectly demonstrated, on a breakfast rice cake. – Denise

2. Mill Composter

Mill

This composter—that no, sorry, I will not stop mentioning—continues to make my family’s life so much easier. There’s hardly anything (although: artichokes, looking at you) that can’t go in there, and you can get around 40 pounds of food waste in there before you have to empty the bucket. It’s beyond convenient; I talked about it so much that my colleague, Samir, just got himself one. Oh! And Mill just released a couple new colors: black and stainless steel. – Kate

3. Fishwife Anchovies

Fishwife

My favorite anchovies are officially back. They’re wild and responsible (just like me!), and hand-packed by a third-generation, family-owned cannery on Spain’s northern coast. But most importantly: they’re just the best. I eat them right out of the tin. – Kate
