Food with Mark Bittman: Kyle MacLachlan

Everybody loves Kyle.

I am such a big Kyle MacLachlan fan. It’s borderline embarrassing at this point. And I realized—is there anyone who isn’t? Okay, maybe you’re not a fan fan, but I don’t know if you can find someone who actively dislikes him. He’s that likable. And he’s likable in real life, too—as my dad and I learned when we interviewed him in the summer of 2022. The night before we did that, my dad and husband and I all watched Blue Velvet together, for fun. I’d never seen it. My dad and Nick promptly fell asleep. I was bewitched. And it was a bad idea to do that the night before the interview, because I fear my little crush was all too apparent.

Oh well. Live and learn. It was still such a pleasure to have Kyle on. If you haven’t seen him as Coop in Twin Peaks, you’ve seen him in the original David Lynch Dune or Sex and the City or Portlandia or Desperate Housewives or as the voice in Riley’s dad in Inside Out. Just, what a selection! Come on!

Kyle also has his own line of wines, called Pursued by Bear, and it’s excellent. He’s also on the Culinary Council, along with Mark, of one of our favorite nonprofits, God’s Love We Deliver. He enjoys food, he enjoys wine, and we enjoy him. The gushing won’t stop until the episode is over. No apologies.
