This piece, by me, is in the New York Times today, but I’m also hoping that the Bittman Project community is taking the lead on making food and food security part of the conversation.
We have, in short, a system of production for one of the most important elements of life that needs fixing. The candidates should pledge to do just that, especially the one candidate we can believe (in case you’re unclear, that’s Kamala Harris. And if you’re about to draft an email to me telling me to steer clear of politics, please don’t bother — I won’t!)
If you want to talk about the climate, economic justice, public health, labor and a host of other issues, you can hardly do better than by beginning with food. It is a linchpin issue.
