Today’s episode is a little different, and I think you’re going to enjoy it. What you’re about to hear is a conversation I had with Congressman Jim McGovern of Massachusetts at the Good Food for All Summit in DC. Jim has been one of the most tireless advocates for food security in Congress for decades. He’s fought to protect SNAP, he’s pushed to fund school meals, and he’s been one of the few people on Capitol Hill who consistently connects the dots between food and everything else: healthcare, agriculture, labor, equity, you name it.
We talked about a lot: the difference between rhetoric and actual policy, why the food system isn’t broken so much as designed, the MAHA movement and what to make of it, and what I’ve been building with Community Kitchen. I also told him what I’ve said in many places: that there are maybe ten fingers’ worth of representatives in Congress who are actually allied on these issues, and that’s one of the problems.
Jim’s a good guy, he’s smart, and he’s honest about how hard this is. I think you’ll like him.
