1. Fish Bone Tweezers

Here’s a good example of an “is it just me?” situation: For as long as I’ve been cooking fish, I’ve been either picking the bones out with my fingers (which hurts, by the way) or just leaving the bones in (also not fun). Turns out there’s a gadget for that. These work beautifully, and I can’t believe I’ve gone so long without having a pair. Gamechanger. – Kate
2. Easy Pepper Grinder

I love black pepper, which means I also love pepper grinders. Over the years I’ve had all kinds—squat wooden ones; tall, slim metal ones; elegant ceramic ones; and everything in between. But recently I had to have wrist surgery, and I discovered that they all had the same problem: I couldn’t turn the handle with my weakened wrist. Fortunately, a friend who suffers from arthritis in her hands recommended the Kuhn Rikon Adjustable Ratchet Grinder with Ceramic Mechanism. Instead of a handle that turns, it has a rachet handle that moves back and forth, a much easier action for anyone who has wrist problems of any sort. It also has a large opening for reloading and, like any decent grinder, it has a fully adjustable grind. I’d highly recommend it for anyone with wrist or hand mobility issues. – Doc
3. 4-Cup Rice Cooker

As someone who lives alone, I rarely need more than a couple cups of rice at a time—that’s why I love this little 4-cup rice cooker from Aroma. I’ve had mine for at least 20 years, and to this day I still can’t make rice in a pot as well as this thing does. It reheats rice beautifully, too—since I don’t have a microwave, this is the easiest way I’ve found: just pop the inner pot back in and leave it on warm until it’s heated through. AND it’s also great for steaming other grains. – Holly
