1. OXO Food Mill

OXO

I can attribute the best potatoes I’ve ever made to this OXO food mill. It was Joël Robuchon’s Pommes Purée—I boiled Yukon gold potatoes whole, peeled them, then pushed them through the fine disc of my food mill while they were still warm. The result was so fine and fluffy that it reminded me of shaved ice, but make it potatoes. The potatoes are combined with an indulgent amount of butter—about 4 parts potato to 1 part butter. They’re quite the treat.

The food mill is also great for applesauce (or any type of fruit purée, really). You can cook the fruit—peel, core and all—and process it through the food mill. It catches all those bits you don’t want and leaves you with a smooth puree. – Holly

2. Owala FreeSip

Owala

After seeing multiple people I spend time with drinking from the Owala FreeSip, I decided to jump on the bandwagon. I was drinking enough water every day from my trusty Ball jar, but not as much as I wanted to (I’m a hydration nut). Who knew that a straw would help me reach my ultimate water goal? The Owala’s straw is hidden (very cool), which I love, and is now my preferred drinking method, but you can also drink from it normally (ie if you want to chug). And it comes in tons of fun colors and sizes (I have the 24 ounce, which is perfect for me) and is relatively inexpensive. It’s a great choice. – Kate

3. Caraway Food Storage Set

Caraway

Our “tupperware” cabinet was a nightmare. Old glass stuff that didn’t seal properly; lots of plastic; plus not enough stuff but too much stuff, somehow. (Does anyone else run into that issue?) Our new Caraway storage set is tidy by nature (it comes with container racks, which are unassuming and smart); dishwasher, microwave, and freezer-safe; and non-toxic. The downside? It’s pricey. But even my husband, the neat freak, was immediately impressed, and very happy with it. We got rid of basically everything else we had, storage-wise. Use code BITTMAN for 10% off. – Kate
